I am a strange loop è un saggio scritto dal fisico Douglas Hofstadter, in seguito alla drammatica esperienza vissuta a causa della morte della moglie avvenuta nel 1993.
Hofstadter cerca di rispondere alla spinosa questione dell'origine della consapevolezza di esistere ovvero della coscienza. L'opera risente fortemente delle argomentazioni svolte nel best seller del medesimo autore, Gödel, Escher, Bach: un'eterna ghirlanda brillante. Più precisamente, il tema fondamentale è la nozione di "strano anello" e di "gerarchia aggrovigliata", concetti che portano inevitabilmente al teorema di Gödel e che secondo l'autore, darebbero luogo al fenomeno della coscienza.

I am a strange loop is an essay written by the physicist Douglas Hofstadter, following the dramatic experience of his wife's death in 1993.
Hofstadter tries to answer the thorny question of the origin of awareness of existing or of consciousness . The work is strongly influenced by the arguments made in the best seller by the same author, Gödel, Escher, Bach: an eternal brilliant garland. More precisely, the fundamental theme is the notion of "strange loop" and "tangled hierarchy", concepts which inevitably lead to Gödel's theorem and which, according to the author, would give rise to the phenomenon of consciousness.
