In the scientific essay The road to reality > of the Nobel Prize in Physics Roger Penrose an extraordinary explanation (albeit of a speculative nature) is elaborated on the mysterious origin of the law of increased entropy . According to the English physicist, this law is a consequence of the peculiar role played by gravity as regards the entropy of a physical system. In other words, while for a gas (as an isolated system) in which the initial distribution of the molecules is not uniform, there is a temporal evolution that leads to the uniformity of the aforementioned distribution, for a gravitating system the opposite happens: aggregates (therefore non-uniform distribution) correspond to low entropy values, and vice versa (provided that the velocities of the individual gravitational constituents are relatively low). This explains the high entropy value of a black hole, which has an extremely low temperature.
In the hot big-bang scenario, the gravitational degrees of freedom were not thermalized, and the resulting "activation" made the law of entropy increase possible.
