Frenet's Theorem (Frenet formulas)
E quindi l'asserto.
After demonstrating the lemma , we finally pass to the proof of the Frenet formulas in the case of curves in R ^ 3 (we had proved the same formulas for curves in R ^ 2).
The proof is very simple: given a regular curve in natural representation, we fix (at will) a curvilinear abscissa s 0 , and therefore the relative intrinsic triad (which is an orthonormal basis of R ^ 3). For any s, the intrinsic triple is a new orthonormal basis of R ^ 3. It follows that the matrix passing from the first to the second base is an orthogonal matrix (i.e. element of the group O (3)). Now we orient the coordinate axes xyz as the intrinsic triplet in s 0, so that the first base is the canonical basis of R ^ 3. Writing the single vectors of the new base as a linear combination of the vectors of the first base (in matrix form), and deriving with respect to the curvilinear abscissa, we find ourselves with the first members coinciding with those of the Frenet formulas, while on the second member we have the derivative of a matrix which calculated in s 0 is antisymmetric by virtue of the aforementioned lemma. And therefore the assertion.
